Registry facts only: name, city as listed, status, version, the workflows the directory files it under, the processes the record marks, and a link to the record, plus a plain note on what the certificate scope covers. Nothing here is an endorsement, and a row is a snapshot, not a guarantee; SERI's directory is the only way to confirm a certificate today. RemoteHands.nyc is not a certified recycler. The inclusion rule
A facility is on this page when its SERI R2 record, as read on 2026-09-20, has the status Active and a city in the five boroughs. The place names come from the directory itself: Bronx; Brooklyn; New York or Manhattan; Staten Island; and Queens, which the directory lists by neighborhood (Astoria, College Point, Flushing, Forest Hills, Fresh Meadows, Jamaica, Long Island City, Woodside). Records with any other status are not shown. Counts are computed from the rows shown; this is not a count of R2 facilities in New York State.
Two things decide whether a listed facility fits your job. First, the certificate has to be current on the day you ship, which only SERI's directory can confirm. Second, the scope on the certificate decides what the facility may handle: a certificate written for phones and tablets does not cover servers. Each row therefore carries a scope note, worded from the scope text on its SERI record:
- General IT equipment scope: the record appears under SERI's ITAD/Remarketing, Data Destruction or E-Scrap/Recycling filters and its scope text is not limited to mobile or consumer devices.
- Scope mainly mobile, cellular or consumer devices: the record appears under the same filters, but its scope text names phones, tablets, hand-held or consumer devices (in some cases together with laptops or computers) rather than IT equipment in general.
- No ITAD, data destruction or recycling workflow listed: the record is Active but the directory does not file it under any of those filters.
The workflows column is the set of directory filters the facility appears under; the certified processes column is what the record itself marks (R2v3 Appendix A to G). The certificate scope column quotes the scope wording, and the R2 column shows the expiration date and certificate number, exactly as SERI's facility record export gave them on 2026-09-21. An expiration date is the end of the current certificate cycle, not a promise that the certificate stays Active until then; SERI's directory shows today's status.

How do I confirm that a facility really holds an R2 certificate?
Open SERI's Find an R2 Certified Facility page, search by name, and read the record. It shows whether the certificate is Active, Suspended, Revoked, Expired, Moved or Closed. SERI says that search tool is the only way to be sure. Certification is per facility, so match the address you will ship to, not the company name. Every row on this page links to its SERI record; the row is a snapshot from 2026-09-20 and the record is the current truth.

What does the scope on the certificate decide?
What the facility may handle under its certificate. Two facilities can both be R2 Active and be certified for very different work: one for IT equipment, another for phones and consumer devices. The scope note on each row says which, using the scope text SERI publishes on the record, and the certified processes column shows what the record marks (logical data erasure, physical destruction, test and repair, materials recovery, brokering, downstream recycling chain). Before you contract, read the scope on the SERI record and check that it covers your equipment type and the process you need. Are the mobile-device refurbishers really R2 certified recyclers?
Yes, as long as the SERI record says Active, which is why they are on this page. 13 of the 21 Active records in the five boroughs have a certificate scope that, as the SERI record states it, covers mainly mobile, cellular or consumer devices (some also name laptops or computers). They are certified; the question for a data center client is whether the scope covers servers, storage and network gear. The certificate scope column quotes each record's wording, so you can see the difference between "Testing and Repairing of Cell Phones and Tablets" and "used IT Equipment" before you ship anything that is not a phone or a tablet.

Is RemoteHands.nyc an R2 certified recycler?
No. RemoteHands.nyc is not a certified recycler and is not registered with any state as one. We are an independent remote hands provider: we power down, unrack, wipe or destroy media to your specification, record serials, photograph and inventory each unit, pack, palletize, and hand the gear to the vendor you choose at the dock, with tracking. The certificate of data destruction or recycling comes from that vendor, never from us. See server decommissioning and removal for the on-floor scope.
